Research Site network System Engineer
Responsibilities/Functions
Surveys performance needs and goals of WAN/LAN users.
Interfaces with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate type of hardware installation.
Assists in the design, specification, and documentation of LAN configuration according to user needs.
Prepares chart and diagrams to explain network operation to staff and others in proper use.
Prepares checklist and processes to optimize the LAN help desk.
Analyzes work load, including traffic and utilizations trends to assist in IT decision making.
Develops and monitors appropriate security procedures to safeguard systems from physical harm and viruses, unauthorised damage to data.
Monitors performance of the organisations’ electronic mail network systems through quality and spot checks of performance.
Manage contract with service providers and ensure that maintenance contracts cover the entire network infrastructure.
Plans and prepares technical reports, memoranda and instructional manuals as documentation of program development.
Qualifications
Bachelor of science (Bsc) degree in computer science, and current (Windows 2000/2003) Microsoft Certified System Engineer certificate or extensive windows experience and Cisco certified Networking.
Three or more years of experience with LAN technologies, including multiple network operating systems (NT, Windows 2000/2003 and Linux), topologies and protocols and wide area networking.
Strong knowledge and experience with PC hardware and software technology as well as Microsoft Windows system administration, file interchange, shared network resources, internet access, and electronic mail.
Demonstrated analytic, written and oral communication skills.
Prerequisite for the Job
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 3-4 years of related experience.
Salary
Attractive but will be based on qualification and experience.
