University of Benin Internal And External Advertisement, Vacancy for the post of VICE-CHANCELLOR
The Governing Council of the University of Benin at its inaugural meeting of Friday, 6th March, 2009 decided to fill the vacant position of Vice-Chancellor which fell vacant on 10th February, 2009 at the expiration of the term of the Vice-Chancellor. Accordingly, Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacancy.
1. Qualities and qualifications
The person to be appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin must:
i. Be one of unassailable integrity.
Ii be a Professor of at latest ten (10) years.
iii. Understand contemporary demands of leadership of the University. He should have had a wide administrative experience of about 15 years, and be capable of giving dynamic leadership to this University;
iv. Be one with high scholastic academic credentials who must have outstanding accomplishment in academics and /or in public life generally. He/She should have a senior teaching and/or research post in a University.
V Command both national and international respect, particularly in the academic world to enhance the good reputation of the University.
VI Be one who is likely to command the respect and loyalty of members of staff and students of the University.
Vii be a person who is not likely to foster personal, racial, ethnic, political, religious or other sectional interests;
Viii Be morally sound. He/She must be free from financial embarrassment.
Ix Be of good health, and have a pleasant, strong personality;
X Be a person of courage who can take decisions on the merit of facts and principles and not on the basis of pressures from individuals or groups;
Xi not be above 60 years old at the time of assumption of duty, and be a good family person,
Xii Be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient.
2. Terms and Conditions of service applicable to the post
The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five years only on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment
3. Mode of Application
(a) Interested candidates are expected to submit with their applications, twenty-five (25) copies of their detailed curriculum vitae(CV) highlighting, among others, the following:-
(i) Full names;
(ii) Age;
(iii) Marital Status
(iv) Academic Qualifications with dates
(v) Publications
(vi) Administrative Experience
(vii) Details of Public/Community Services.
(b) In the case of a nominated or “searched candidate”, the CV must be accompanied by a letter of consent duly signed and dated by the candidate.
(c) Each candidate must have three (3) referees who should be requested by the candidate to forward their referees report by Courier service directly to the Ag. Registrar under confidential cover.
(d) All applications are to be forwarded by Courier Service under confidential cover in a sealed envelope marked at the upper left hand corner “Post of Vice-Chancellor, UNIBEN,” to reach
