SOS Children’s Villages, Nigeria is a Non Governmental Social Development Organization that has been working to meet the needs and protect the interest and rights of the children since 1973. We work in the spirit of the UN Convention on the rights of the Child; provide long-term family-based care for orphans and vulnerable children and help strengthens families within the communities. As a result of expansion, vacancies now exist in our new Children’s Village in Zawan, Jos and we invite applications from qualified individuals to fill the following positions:
1. VILLAGE DIRECTOR
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The right candidate will be required to possess a good degree in Management/Psychology/Education or Social Work.
• Possession of a post graduate degree will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of 10 years cognate experience is required.
• In addition the candidate is expected to possess very good leadership, communication, decision making and interpersonal skills.
• People and Financial Management skills are also essential attributes. He has good understanding of the Child Right Act.
• Ability to speak Hausa language is a must while an understanding of the indigenous language will be a definite advantage.
2. SOS MOTHERS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The Mother lives permanently in the Village in a house with the children entrusted in her care and she is responsible for the children’s individual psycho-social and educational development.
• She must possess a minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate.
• Possession of a Diploma/NCE in Home Economics/Nutrition will be an added advantage.
• She must be conversant with child care practices, children health, nutrition planning, cooking and managing family budget.
• She must possess an above average written and oral communication skill.
• Above all, she must be a natural lover of children with homely and caring disposition.
• Good knowledge of the child Rights Act is desirable.
3. AUNTIES
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• She is expected to possess a minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate with good oral and written communication.
• She should have natural love for children and tolerance, with good housekeeping skills.
• She must be caring and demonstrate respectful attitude towards children.
4. SENIOR NURSING SISTER AND NURSING SISTER
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The candidates must be registered Nurse/Midwife (SRN/SCM) with public health experience and possess a minimum of 5/3 years cognate working experience respectively in providing and coordinating primarily health care services, designing and facilitating programmes on nutrition, STDs and other related issues.
5. PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelors degree/HND in Accountancy, Business Administration or any numerate discipline with professional qualification (may be part qualified) of the ICAN, ANAN, ICSA and ICPAN.
• A minimum of 5 years cognate experience in a donor funded organization is required.
• The candidate must possess mastery of MS Office Suites especially MS-EXCEL and be familiar with any accounting software.
• Good communication, report writing, and analytical skills are required.
6. SOCIAL WORKER (Female)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The candidate must possess a good degree in Guidance and Counseling, Psychology or Educational Psychology.
• Possession of a Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) or Guidance and Counseling will be a distinct advantage.
• She must have acquired a minimum of 5 years working experience in guidance and counseling, social work or teaching especially children and youths.
• She must possess a good comprehension of educational matters, social welfare services as well as knowledge of child care legislation.
7. SECRETARY / CASHIER
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The candidate must possess a minimum of ND in Accountancy, Secretarial Administration/NCE in Business Education with skills in office administration and petty cash management with at least 3 years working experience.
• He/She must possess good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• He/She must be computer literate.
8. HEADMASTER/HEADMISTRESS KINDERGARTEN
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The candidate must possess a minimum of NCE/B.Ed. in Early Childhood/Primary Education with not less than 10 years practical teaching experience out of which at least 3 must have been spent as a head of school.
• In addition, the candidate must have adequate knowledge of Nigerian Educational Policies/Curriculum, Child Psychology, and current trends in education.
• He/She must possess, adequate knowledge and use of Montessori and Froebel methods and materials in teaching, and have excellent oral, reading and writing skills.
• Knowledge of Hausa Language will be an added advantage.
9. HEAD MASTER/HEADMISTRESS KINDERGARTEN
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The candidate must possess a minimum of NCE/B.Ed. in Early Childhood/Primary Education with not less than 10 years practical teaching experience out of which at least 3 must have been spent as a head of school.
• In addition, the candidate must have adequate knowledge of Nigerian Educational Politics/Curriculum, Child Psychology, and current trends in education.
• He/She must possess, adequate knowledge and use of Montessori and Froebel methods and materials in teaching, and have excellent oral, reading and writing skills.
• Knowledge of Hausa Language will be added advantage.
10. HEADMASTER/HEADMISTRESS PRIMARY (Basic 1-6)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The candidate must possess a minimum of NCE/B.Ed. in Early Childhood/Primary Education with not less than 10 years practical teaching experience out of which at least 3 must have been spent as a head of school.
• In addition, the candidate must have adequate knowledge of Nigerian Educational Policies/Curriculum, Child Psychology, and current trends in education.
• He/She must possess, adequate knowledge and use of Montessori and Froebel methods and materials in teaching, and have excellent oral, reading and writing skills.
• Knowledge of the Hausa Language will be an added advantage.
11. EDUCATORS AND TEACHERS KINDERGARTEN AND PRIMARY (Basic 1-6)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Generally for all teaching positions, candidates must possess a minimum of NCE in Early Childhood Education with good mastery of special subjects taught in Kindergarten and Basic 1-6.
• They are also expected to possess a minimum of 3 years teaching experience with adequate knowledge of the use of Montessori and Froebel methods and diverse current teaching techniques.
• They should also have the knowledge of modern teaching techniques and aids.
• Ability to use the computer and internet for research is a must.
12. SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of NCE in Special Education with good mastery of special subjects taught in Kindergarten and Basic 1-6.
• He/She is also expected to possess a minimum of 3 years practical teaching experience with adequate knowledge of the use of Montessori and Froebel methods in teaching children who have physical, mental and learning challenges.
13. FINE ART TEACHER
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Our ideal candidate must possess a minimum of NCE in Fine Art.
• He/She is expected to have a minimum of 3 years experience in teaching Fine Art.
• He should be an extremely creative and imaginative individual with ability to maximize the use of available resources.
14. DRIVERS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The Driver is expected to possess a minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate.
• He must also have a valid Drivers’ License and should be conversant with the road networks in the Benue/Plateau axis.
• He is expected to possess a neat appearance, a pleasant disposition and a very good knowledge of the Nigerian Highway Codes.
• In addition, he must be child friendly.
15. GARDENERS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The Gardeners must possess a minimum of First Secondary Leaving Certificate and must be able to tender and nurture flowers/plants to growth.
• He must be physically strong with warm personality.
• In accordance with the organization’s Child Protection Policy, all employment is subject to applicable background checks, including criminal record checks.
